In memory of Nina Lopes

It is with deep sadness that Cancer Awareness Trust shares the news that our much loved Ambassador, collaborator, and above all, our beautiful friend, Nina Lopes, passed away on Sunday 24 November.

The cruellest part of our incredible role at Cancer Awareness Trust is that we’ll lose people along the way. Brilliant people. People who make an immeasurable difference to our ability to empower others to change the course of cancer.

There is no stronger representation of this than Nina. No ordinary ambassador, Nina took the power of her story, and gifted it to our mission, to our team and our community, so that others may be more fortunate than her.

To know Nina is to know what it truly means to live life to the full. She not only embodied everything we stand for in her search for answers and for hope she brought us life. We danced, we laughed, we cried, we made things happen - together. Her incredible legacy will save lives. Our job now, as always, is to finish the work she helped us start.

As many of you will have read in Nina’s own words, in the beautiful interview published in The Times on Saturday 23 November, there is still one more episode to come from What’s Next, the podcast series she fronted in collaboration with Cancer Platform. As a matter of respect to the family, to her daughter, Ilani, the episode will be released only when the family agrees.

Nina, we love you. For the lasting love and inspiration you brought into our lives, thank you. You will forever be a part of our team.

To Nina’s beautiful family and friends, our thoughts are with you, and we will always be here for you.
